Traverse's new Creating Space Writers' Group opens for applications
Today the Traverse's Creating Space Writers' Group - a new initiative that recognises the need to create a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment for writers of the Global Majority to develop their work - opens for applications.
Designed for Scotland-based writers of the Global Majority aged 18+, with some writing experience and a new play idea that the Traverse can help to support, successful applicants will embark upon a series of varied workshops led by acclaimed playwright Mariem Omari. Over 10 weeks, Mariem, alongside established guest writers and artists, including guest facilitator Shilpa T-Hyland, will guide participants through online and in-person sessions covering the playwriting process, industry mentorship, and feedback on their writing.
At the end of the 10 week course, writers will have an opportunity to hear an extract of their play read by actors, as well as receiving a bespoke one to one meeting with one of the Traverse Artistic Team.
To apply, writers must provide a short writing sample of any form (play, prose, poetry), and answer some short questions in written or video form. All travel costs incurred by participants attending the in-person workshops will be covered by the Traverse.
Creating Space Writers' Group has been developed in collaboration with Scottish BPOC Writers Network.
