Traverse Theatre Company
Our autumn/winter season is abundant with fresh and provocative Traverse Theatre Company new work, presenting three world premiere productions – The Monstrous Heart (co-produced with Stephen Joseph Theatre) by Oliver Emanuel; Strange Tales (co-produced with Grid Iron), adapted by Pauline Lockhart and Ben Harrison from Strange Tales (from a Chinese Studio) by Pu Songling; and I Can Go Anywhere by Douglas Maxwell.
We also celebrate our yearly Open Submissions initiative with First Stages Festival– presenting script-in-hand readings from the six selected playwrights, alongside writing workshops, panel discussions and networking opportunities. WhileClass Act returns for its 28th year, inspiring senior pupils from schools across Edinburgh to become playwrights.
Our A Play, A Pie and A Pint, Òran Mór (presented by Traverse Theatre) season continues with From Paisley to Paolo by Martin McCardie; Number One Fan by Kim Millar; Mack the Knife by Morag Fullerton; The Signalman by Peter Arnott; Fly Me to the Moon by Marie Jones; and The Sweetest Growl by Claire Nicol.
Visiting Company productions
Our visiting company season kicks off with a reading from Sally Hobson’s latest script The Play of Light upon the Earth, before productions of WhirlyGig by Daniel Padden; Black Men Walking by Eclipse Theatre Company; Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris; the world premiere of National Theatre of Scotland’s adaptation of ThePanopticon by Jenni Fagan; The Drift by Hannah Lavery; Build a Rocket by Christopher York; Anatomy: Finest Cuts by Anatomy Arts; thick skin, elastic heart by Sonnet Youth and Company Many; a double-bill of Stellar Quines new works, Fibres by Frances Poet and Hope and Joy by Ellie Stewart; Still No Idea by Lisa Hammond, Lee Simpson and Rachael Spence; Alex & Eliza by Umar Butt; Atlantis Banal: Beneath the Surface by Shona Reppe; and White by Andy Manley.
Plus, Youth Theatre Arts Scotland presents Emergence 2019 – a celebration of bold new works-in-progress. While Soundhouse return with their usual stellar calendar of Monday (and the occasional Sunday) gigs in the Traverse Bar Café.
