About

The Traveling Janes is an international collective formed by award winning vocalist Ali Affleck in 2023.

The band name ‘Traveling Jane’ was a slang term ascribed to a woman who worked on the American railroad and traveling tent shows during the early days of American popular music. The band takes back the term by creating unique musical projects that focus on the roots of today’s music. Starting with ragtime, 1800s American pop, roots and trad jazz the girls soon discovered wonderful ties across the water and across history between north America, the Celtic nations and England. A deep dive into traditional and folk history and songs followed, and the result being this fresh project looking at old folk songs from The USA, Canada and the British isles.

The Janes invite you onto old sailing boats to weather long journeys, lost love and sorrow, but also to embrace triumph over old foes and a yearning for the familiar, safe warmth of home.

The Travelling Janes’ core players are all top tier early Americana, jazz and blues performers and each bring their unique expertise into the mix. They are: Ali Affleck (vocals, percussion), Gill Hunter (accordion) , Hannah-Rose Dexter (bass), and Katie Cavera (banjo and guitar).
