“We were gobsmacked. The music was utterly enveloping and engrossing, taking us all on a deep, dark journey. Tim's complex percussion…instrumentation resonating, rumbling and gliding under and overtones…allowing Jemima's utterly beautiful and flawless ranging vocals to roam around the dark themes of the music going from gentle and traditional airs to outright howling and everything in between. Phew! Still haven't recovered my composure!” - Michael Farrel, promoter of Letham Nights
A lover of the ballad folk tradition, and with inspiration coming from many genres, Jemima Thewe’s songwriting is layered with grit, tenderness, mischief, wisdom and humour. These cloud hopping tales are told by warm, powerful vocals and carried on a bed of playful percussion and strings.
Accompanied by long-time collaborator and partner Tim Lane (founding drummer of Hidden Orchestra), they make an enveloping fusion of dark songs and bright, deep rhythms. Lyrics and melodies creep up and catch you unawares and beats get you moving in body and spirit. They have the capacity to hold an audience with pin-drop effect, and also get them up and dancing.
This is music for all ages and all ears, the effect stays with you long after you have heard it; a live show is not to be missed.
