“Dialogues heralds the emergence into the limelight of a very talented musician” – KLOF Mag
“The sheer scope and moods here reaffirm Lee as one of Scotland’s most versatile musicians” – Snack Mag
Su-a Leeis one of Scotland's most versatile, adventurous and charismatic cellists. She has worked with rock icons such as Jack Bruce (Cream); jazz musicians including Peter Erskine (Weather Report) and Thomas Strønen; and in the world of folk sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan from India and Scottish folk-electronica pioneer Martyn Bennett.
Su-a works extensively within the UK classical and folk music scenes and is a founding member of the daring and highly innovative Mr. McFall’s Chamber. She is a long-standing member of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra where she remains as Assistant Principal Cello.
Born in Seoul, Su-a (and her sisters Song-a and Hae-a) went to Chethams School of Music, Manchester from the age of 9. Nine years later she was awarded a full scholarship to Juilliard, New York City, studying with Harvey Shapiro.
While she is deeply rooted in her Scottish home, Su-a and her cello have appeared all over the world, from South America to the Arctic Circle. As well as performing in the world’s major concert halls, you are as likely to find her in unorthodox and interesting locations, including Japanese temples, circus tents and waterfalls
In 2022 she released her first 'solo' album. But here's the twist, it wasn't a solo project at all as she invited some of her best musical friends to participate in a series of stunning duets, hence the title Dialogues.
For this very special show Su'a will be joined by three of these stellar collaborators: Duncan Chisholm, one of Scotland's most accomplished fiddlers, celebrated multi-instrumentalist/composer/producer Donald Shaw, and Hamish Napier, producer, tunesmith and multi-faceted performer.
Su-a says, "Playing solo is not really my thing. I am energised by working with other people, especially these people.”
Expect an evening of traditional, and not so traditional tunes.
NB This concert replaces the gig with Dominic Waxing Lyrical which has been postponed due to illness.
