Refunds and exchanges
We’ll refund your tickets if a show is cancelled, or a time or date change means you can no longer attend.
We can exchange tickets for an administration fee of £1 per ticket (up to a maximum of £5), with at least 24 hours’ notice, for another performance of the same production, subject to availability. To do this, you will need to return any physical tickets you have received for the original performance to the Traverse before the original or rebooked performance date (whichever is earlier).
You can find our full Box Office terms and conditions here.
Latecomers policy
Because of the small size and layout of our theatre spaces, unfortunately, we can’t always let you in if you’re late – especially for Traverse 2 shows – so please arrive in plenty of time so you don’t miss out.
Ticket collection
We can keep tickets for collection from the Box Office free of charge if you let us know you'd like us to do this in advance

Returns Queue
Looking for a ticket to a sold-out performance? You can use our Returns Waiting List or Returns Queue!
Once a show is sold out, you can add your name to the Returns Waiting List by contacting our Sales & Welcome Team by phone (0131 228 1404), email (boxoffice@traverse.co.uk) or in person at the Sales & Welcome counter.
If you are emailing please make sure to include:
- Your name
- Phone number. Please make sure this is a number you will be available on the day before your requested performance.
- Email address
- The production, performance date and time you would like to book for
- The number of tickets you would like. Please note that you may request up to 2 tickets only per performance.
We will take a maximum of 10 names per performance.
The day before the performance you have requested to book, if we have returned tickets available for you to purchase, we will phone you on the number you have provided to notify you. If you miss the call, we will move on to the next name on the list, and you will return to your original position in the waiting list. Please note that we cannot guarantee what time these calls will take place, but if you do not receive a call from us, unfortunately we do not have returned tickets available to offer you.
All tickets sold through the Returns Waiting List are sold at either full price or standard concession rate.
If you don't manage to get a ticket via our Returns Waiting List, you are welcome to try again on the day of a sold out performance via our Returns Queue. Find more information about this here.
Age recommendations and content warnings
The minimum age requirement for a young person to attend a performance at the Traverse unaccompanied by an adult is 14. If the age recommendation for a specific performance is above 14, then the young person must be above the recommended age to attend unaccompanied.
Each production presented at the Traverse has been given an age recommendation, and where possible we display any warnings about show content for your consideration whilst booking. This information can be found on each production’s page on the website and in the brochure. If you have questions or would like further information, please contact the Box Office team who will be happy to help.
Young children policy
The Traverse is a family-friendly theatre, but it’s always worth checking if a performance is suitable for children.
As long as they’re sitting on the lap of an adult, there’s no charge for children under the age of 2, and no ticket is required.
We would kindly ask that those with Under 2s sit somewhere where it is easy to leave the theatre, in case your child becomes unsettled. In such instances, we reserve the right to ask you to step out in respect for other customers. Please aware that readmittance into the theatre may not be permitted - seek advice upon entry from our Front of House team.
If a show is specifically made for very young children there may be a charge for tickets. Email boxoffice@traverse.co.uk if you are unsure.
Luggage
Please note that we don’t have a cloakroom and can’t store any bags or luggage, but there is a Left Luggage facility at Waverley Train Station. Give us a call for more details.
Only bags measuring 22cm x 35cm x 56cm (including handles and wheels), or smaller, can be taken into our auditoriums (one per person).
